
Yael Levin Hungerford, PhD
President
Yael Levin Hungerford is President of The Carob Trust, where she oversees Carob’s overall strategy, programs, and grantmaking. Recognizing the importance of healthy civic institutions for a flourishing society, she has a keen interest in the role private sector leadership and philanthropy play in promoting a strong civil society.
Yael comes to Carob with extensive experience in the non-profit sector, having held several leadership positions in education-related programs and organizations. Most recently she led the Manhattan Institute’s Adam Smith Society for a number of years.
Yael has published widely on the role of a liberal arts education in a modern republic. She has a PhD in political theory from Boston College and an AB in philosophy from the University of Chicago. She is the recipient of numerous academic fellowships.
